Well whats a Mega Man site without a review of the games? Simple, it's a Mega Man site that doesn't have a review of the games. Yeah that was a bad joke, but--anyway--here it is:
My Comments:
Simplistic in it's complexity, this game is a straight forward "shoot everything that moves and some that don't" kinda game. Not many out there of these that are worth a crap but here's one right here. Mega Man X. This game happens in the future......really far in the future, over a hundred years at least. Anyway, Seems Dr. Light made a grand discovery but feared it's power enough to hide it away in a capsule. That capsule was later found and opened and so you have X. The New Blue Bomber ((Editor's Note: X is actually called the Titanium Titan.)) joined this group of police like guys that go around keeping Reploids in line. They call themselves the Maverick Hunters and the people they hunt.....well that should be obvious. OK. On to the more important stuff.
Gameplay:
The Controls ar Simple and easy to use (though not having dash [until later] and duck [from Mega Man X5 onward] will mess you up royally) and the levels are Challenging even with all the armor pieces. The game even has its secrets, one of which allows you to kill a normally somewhat difficult boss in a single hit, Street Fighter style.
Difficulty:
Moderately difficult due to smart level design, if you know the correct tricks, however, you can make the game much easier.
Graphics:
The Graphics are good for its day. There are shadows on the Sprites and the environmental effects are pretty good. A good base that they improved upon in X2.
Sound:
The music is great but some of the sounds leave something to be desired, but only in the fact that they can get quite annoying after a long time of play. The sound in question? Charging a shot.
Final Stats
System: Super Nintendo
Company: Capcom
Game Series: Mega Man X
Game Style: 2D Action/Adventure
Players: One Player
Save Feature: Password
Price: Under $20
Favorite Character: Vile
Least Favorite: Sigma
To Make it Better:
This is an easy one. Rerelease it! Simple as that. Anime cutscenes, more defined plot, redrawn sprites...the works. I don't care if Capcom doesn't think it will sell well here [in America]. I want them all redone!
To Make it Worse:
This would just take to long to type out......
Overall:
A good game if not a cult classic. Nothing really revolutionary or new but a good title if you like to go back to roots with game series.
Solid and with no glitches it's only drawback is that you have to read the instruction booklet for the plot...
